Fashion and rock and roll. Models and musicians. It's a tried and true formula that for years had been celebrated during MNfashion's Voltage Fashion Amplified extravaganza. The event is one part runway show, one part concert, all parts awesome. Showcasing the latest in Minneapolis music and fashion, Voltage marked the closing of MN Fashion week each year at First Ave. So much makeup, so much dancing, so much glitter. Obviously, we were all in.
Each year, Sevnthsin designed and developed a new website for Voltage in the style of that year's event. The inspiration for the 2011 site came from the venue, First Ave. It's a music hall with an amazing history, founded by the purple one himself and frequented by musical legends. To pay homage to First Ave history, the site was designed as a series of vintage-inspired gig posters users browse through from left to right.
More than a pretty front end, the site was a tech nerd's dream. Each poster was an experiment in Typekit-powered web fonts, SVG imagery and CSS3. The result was a graphic creation that scaled from desktop to phone, something not possible using the more traditional method of creating each poster as an image file.
A groundbreaking use of Typekit to create graphics, the Typekit Blog and SiteInspire featured the site, and Communication Arts honored it as the Webpick of the Day.
